How we got our helicopter sim into our office block

As Paul had learned to fly a Robinson R22 Helicopter at Elstree Aerodrome, it was always part of of our business plan to have a helicopter sim in addition to our Boeing 737 Sim.

And out of the blue we became aware of an R22 simulator that was for sale. This had been a real flying helicopter but was written off after a particularly heavy landing during a lesson and then converted into a simulator.  So the main challenge was transporting it and getting it into out premises as we only have standard width doors!

We were ably helped by https://www.fabmoves.com/

who said it was the most unusual item they had ever moved. Once they had driven it to us we needed five people to lift it out the van. We took the skids off then lifted it up the front steps with millimetres to spare each side, through the main double door of our building. Now for the real challenge – taking off the door and part of the wall to get it in!

Once in, wall patched up and door put back, we put the skids back on and now  it looks like it has always been there!
